We had a great Memorial Day weekend trip to Kentucky, I really needed it. In the past few weeks our closest friends had a baby and my sister got engaged- both events that I hated not being there for right when they happened. Friday afternoon we headed to Tennessee and broke up the trip by stopping for a visit with Matt's parents, complete with dinner at Big Ed's, the tastiest pizza joint in Oak Ridge. Then on Saturday it was on to Lexington to meet up with the bride-to-be and go to my parents for an afternoon of wedding planning.
We sat on the patio flipping through bridal magazines and even went with Claudia to try on some dresses! One thing is certain, she's going to be a beautiful bride.
On Sunday we got to meet the newest little redhead in the Crawford family- Ellie! She was born April 25th and couldn't be cuter. Pete and Laura are looking great too, you'd never guess that they're new, sleep deprived parents.
We had a cookout complete with Laura's yummy homemade corn and bean salsa and cupcakes. Sweet baby Ellie slept in my arms...
slept in Uncle Matt's arms...
woke up and looked around to see what all the ooohing and ahhing was about...
and then she slept some more. She's got quite the pampered life going for her so far, lots of being snuggled and sleeping. I can't wait to see her little personality evolve between now and the next time we get to see her.
We decided to drive all the way back last night and I think it was the right spur of the moment decision. There was hardly any traffic and it was wonderful to wake up at home this morning for a lazy first unofficial day of summer. It's hot here, we hit 100 degrees last week already, and the yard looks beautiful with summery flowers like hydrangeas in full bloom:
We have so many, in several shades of blue and purple that I took Laura's idea and clipped some to bring inside.
They look so pretty on our kitchen table! It was great spending our weekend seeing our friends and both of our families, but it always feels good to be back at home again too.
