There are some things that happen each holiday season that make me feel all warm, cozy, and Christmasy inside. Some of my favorite traditions include watching movies like Mickey's Christmas Carol, Elf, and Love Actually while drinking hot chocolate. When we were kids, it was things like reading Schnuepperle every night and opening a new gift on the Advent calendar each morning. However, one tradition has been consistent every Christmas for as long as I can remember and completes the season like no other: Vanillekipferl.

Vanillekipferl are the tastiest Christmas cookies of them all, a delicious dough blend of ground hazlenuts and almonds, carefully crafted into crescent shapes, baked, and then lovingly dunked into a powdered vanilla sugar blend. It's a labor intensive process that we get together every year to make because the result is what Christmas, to me, should taste like. This weekend with the snow falling outside it was the perfect backdrop for yet another successful year of cookie baking.

With the move to South Carolina just weeks away, a stress free weekend of cookies with family was just what I needed to remember the reason for the season.
Those look delicious!! So glad you've got long-time family traditions -- can't wait to see you soon, hope the stresses aren't mounting too high :)
