Oma's 60th

Last week my Mom turned sixty and to celebrate we had an amazing long weekend family reunion in the mountains.  The weather was gorgeous, the views from the cabin my parents rented were stunning, the company was delightful and the memories will not soon be forgotten.  In fact, there are so many fun memories to share that this post will be a long one, full of family photos and moments.

Luke was excited to be reunited with his favorite Aunt and Uncle, and I was excited to have extra laps around for him.

The name of the cabin was "Endless Sunsets."  It lived up to its name.

We embarked on a family hike one morning to see some nearby waterfalls.  Our cargo enjoyed the journey up the mountain so much that both Kate and Luke were fast asleep on the hike back down.

There was also an adventure to a goat farm.  Kate befriended some of the goats and was skeptical of others.

Aunt Claudia, an avid blog reader, saw where Kate had a blast playing miniature golf a few weeks ago, and decided to bring her a set of clubs for her to continue practicing her skills.  Fun was had with the sweet gift by more than just Kate.

On our last night we made a birthday feast to honor Mom.  Matt grilled steaks, Claudia and I cooked side dishes, Stephen babysat while we cooked and sliced the ice cream cake, and Dad acted as the sommelier sipping wine with the honored guest while the meal was prepared.  We are so blessed to have my Mom as the matriarch of our family and loved having a chance to dote on her, toast to her health and happiness, and spend a three day weekend acknowledging this milestone birthday.

 Oh, and of course, there were presents!  A new squall coat for the Alaskan cruise my parents are taking later this year and a stunning, sparkly diamond and sapphire eternity band from my Dad that is as classy as Mom.

This was our third year running for a Mack/Wheeler/Summers springtime family reunion somewhere in the mountains, and it has become an annual highlight and tradition I hope we keep up.  Schedules are busy and we all live in different places, but a weekend like last week reminded us that family is what it's really all about and always worth making the time and effort to be together.  Happy 60th Mom!
