Charleston- the other windy city

Our steady flow of visitors continues, starting with last weekend hours after my parents left when Aunt Donna and Uncle Bobby stopped by on their way taking their grandkids Hope, Brody, and Eli to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break.Even though it was just a short visit, it meant a lot to us that they took time to see where we've ended up.

Then Friday Matt's parents and Gran came to spend the weekend with us. Gran is the only grandparent either of us have left, and we were excited to show her around our new home state.

We decided to go to Charleston since it's such a beautiful city and there's so much to do there. We hitched a ride on a carriage tour and trotted through the million dollar mansions in style with Greg (our guide) and Dakota (the giant horse).Greg was quite the history buff and full of obvious pride in his city, he was even sporting a scraggly beard since when he wasn't guiding a horse and buggy he was starring in historical reenactments. The tour was entertaining and informative, not to mention a relaxing way to see such a beautiful city.Here are some shots I got from the carriage:The temps were in the mid-eighties when we started the tour... but then some clouds rolled in and the wind started really picking up. The rest of the afternoon was so breezy and gusty that we got chilly! Even with the sudden strong winds coming off the water we couldn't resist running out to the beach just to say that we saw the ocean.

It was like a sandstorm thanks to the wind, so it was a very fast walk to the water, stick in a toe, turn around, and walk back to the car while trying not to blow away.Of course all of our adventures made us hungry so we enjoyed some delicious food during our trip. We had lunch at the Charleston Crab House and dinner at Taco Boy.

It was a great trip and we'll remember battling the blustery April winds with the family for years to come. Anyone who wants to come visit we're happy to keep on hosting, especially if you want to take us out for yummy dinners!
