Coon Pit Reunion!

Our vacation next week can be viewed as either bad timing or good timing… bad because there’s so much going on here and it means one week less to get Matt ready to move, or good because with all the stress and chaos lately a getaway with our best friends will help us maintain our sanity.

Matt lived in 3 different apartments throughout his time at UK: the HOP, the Coon Pit, and Punham Ranch. My favorite of these run down places was definitely the HOP for sentimental reasons- it’s where we met and fell in love. However, meeting my husband and the cheap rent ($250.00 a month- unbelievable!) were the only advantages to living there. The fellow apartment mates at the HOP consisted of a few great people and several moochers, noisemakers, beggars (ok, technically Thomas didn’t live there, he was a homeless guy that hung around asking for money- definitely not for cigarettes, he was adamant about that), and pranksters who kind of ruined the whole experience for the rest of us. So in the summer of 2003 when Matt moved to S. Limestone the new roommate combination was a welcome and hilariously entertaining change.

Adam, Matt, Mike, Pete, and Josie called their home the Coon Pit (their mascot is pictured at the top of this post, he sat on top of their TV) and earlier this year Mike sent out an e-mail calling for the first annual Coon Pit reunion beach trip. It’s finally here, and in 3 days we’ll be relaxing in a huge ocean front house on Sullivan’s Island:

Yup, that's an actual picture of the balcony at our house... which is why I'm thinking this trip falls into the "good timing" category!

  1. Yay!! Coon Pit Reunion!!! We'll have to do a Josie memorial since she is no longer with us - do you have the raccoon packed?!?!

  3. "Can I have a dollar? It's not to buy cigarettes!!". Why didn't we invite Thomas to the beach?......Oh yeah....because he's gross.
