Anniversary Camping Trip

Our escape to Jones Gap State Park for a weekend of backpacking, hammock swinging, camping, and hiking was exactly what we were hoping for!  The weather was so great that we actually slept without the cover on the tent which meant we could see the stars from inside through the mesh.  The trail to the campsite was rocky but manageable.  The trail the next day for our hike was... intense.  We had no idea how steep and challenging it was going to be, there were parts we had to climb and scramble over boulders to get to the rest of the path.  The view from the top of the ridge was spectacular though, and the miles coming down the other side were much easier than the initial effort it took to get up to the top.  It was a lot of fun to have some time to ourselves (thanks Oma and Opa for keeping the Crazies) and to get away from all the usual daily distractions enjoying the beauty of fall.
