Opa's Birthday

After two back to back weekend trips to Kentucky, we were very happy to have family come to us instead last weekend and to stay at home with Oma and Opa in town!  It was a gorgeous spring weekend, and also my Dad's birthday, and a perfect few days of outdoor activities like blowing bubbles, swinging, visiting the zoo, and taking walks together.

Happy birthday Opa!
Not only was it Opa's birthday, it was also time for the Kentucky Wildcats to fight to win their 28th SEC Championship title (Go Big Blue), and so the birthday cake was blue and white per Kate's request.

Backyard Fun

On Saturday we visited the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which is always a fun trip.  Kate knows where all of her favorite exhibits are and enjoyed racing around the zoo to see them.  We also took the tram ride over the river to the Botanical Gardens, a highlight of the visit for Kate.

Ready to ride
We did NOT zip the zoo... or "zoom the river" for that matter.  Maybe next time, Mom?

Trick question: How many monkeys are in this picture?
As hoped, the morning at the zoo wore everyone out and by the afternoon when we took a leisurely stroll around the lake, the double stroller became the double napper.

When we weren't relaxing outside, we were inside watching basketball or listening to Oma read books.  It was a great, lazy weekend and as always I'm so thankful my parents were willing to make the trip to see us.  Spring/summer is in full bloom down here this week, if you've got spring fever I'm going to strongly suggest you follow their example and come visit us as well!

Doesn't this action shot make you wonder what that book is about?
