Grammie and Granddaddy to the Rescue

We wrapped up February pretty much the same way we've spent a lot of 2014 so far- with someone sick in our house.  This time it was Kate again, our poor baby had a fever for three days and was uncharacteristically lethargic and off balance.  We thought maybe she had another ear infection that was causing her equilibrium and mood to be off, but a trip to the pediatrician revealed this time a flu type virus was to blame for our blah baby.

After all the time off already used this year for illness and bad weather (and since it was only February), we called for reinforcements to cuddle our baby back to health giving Matt and I the chance to save our dwindling time off for whatever else might happen the rest of the year.  Thankfully, Matt's parents are retired, flexible, and crazy about our baby girl.  They jumped in the car on Tuesday and Kate was able to spend the rest of the week relaxing at home recovering and enjoying some quality time with her grandparents.  It was a win-win situation for everyone.

Luckily they were staying through the weekend and by the end of the week Kate was back to her usual smiling, chatty, energetic, playful self and they were able to see the fun side of her too.  Kate loved the undivided attention, going on weekday adventures, snacking on ginger snaps, and having her Grammie and Granddaddy around for such a nice long visit.  I loved knowing she was getting some quality time with them along with the rest and pampering she needed to fully recover.

On Saturday we were excited to welcome even more of Matt's family to South Carolina for the weekend, Aunt Carol, Shannon, Steve, Sydney and Hannah all made the trip from Kentucky to visit!  They were in town to go to the UK vs. SC basketball game that evening, but since that game ended up being an embarrassing loss, let's just focus on the fun we had leading up to the awful game.

It was great to see our family and I'm glad that thanks to John and Peggy's week of TLC, the Kate they got to see was a happy and healthy version of our child.  We may live far away from family, but we feel very blessed to know that in a pinch we can still call on them to come help out.  March is starting out with beautiful spring weather, and as I type this, no one in my house feels sick, so let's hope that this next month will be better than the first two of the year!
