What more could you want for a holiday weekend than perfect weather, delicious food, family, and a porch overlooking the pool with a beach right beyond that? We love Isle of Palms anyway, but now that we have Kate, we will begin making even better memories there. Our three nights unfortunately were not as relaxing as our days... the excitement of sand, surf, and sharks (yes, we saw one swimming dangerously close to the beach) was a bit too much for the baby to handle and having her sleeping in the room with us didn't help. Thankfully, we only live a short two hour drive away and we easily changed our plans to come home a bit earlier than we wanted today to toss that over tired child in her own crib. Here are the highlights from our Memorial Day weekend at Wild Dunes with the Wheelers:
Friday:
| Safari explorer hat? Check. Take me to the beach Grandaddy! |
| Contemplating life with Grammie. I feel so small next the ocean. |
| Buns in the air, snoozing in her pack n' play after the first day of fun |
Saturday:
| Morning stroll while Mommy takes a nap- a win/win for everyone |
| Patriotic swimwear for Memorial Day weekend. |
| Pool experts Grammie & Mommy take baby for her first dip! She didn't cry... but she didn't smile much either. |
| Hmph. This face about sums up her feelings toward the experience. |
| Baby's first toe in the ocean! She did cry... but with a shark swimming a few feet away, can you blame her? |
| Such a lucky little lady to grow up so close to the beach! Someday she'll greet that water with a smile! |
| Relaxing semi-nude in the shade poolside. |
Sunday:
| When your baby wakes you up before dawn, you might as well go down to watch the sunrise |
| What do you mean 6:00 a.m. is to early for vacation? Let's start this day!! |
I wish we could have stayed all week. Apart from the fun in the sun, there was also lots of tasty meals and Matt and I even went out to a nice dinner together while the grandparents babysat (I don't think they minded their time alone with their sweet granddaughter one bit). Sunday afternoon the whole family spent an hour or more on the porch mesmerized watching Kate roll around and play on a beach towel, if that's any indication of how crazy we all are about her.

Is it normal for there to be paparazzi following me around my whole life?

| The many faces of my happy baby girl |
I've always loved this weekend, the official kickoff to summer. Since Katherine is entering a fun, curious, interactive stage I have a feeling this is going to be a great summer to remember!
A shark a few FEET away?! Oh my!! Glad y'all had fun! :)
ReplyDeleteYes! Granted it was a small shark, but I've never seen anything swimming that close to shore in the shallow water before!
ReplyDeleteI don't care how small! That's crazy! Even the small guys have big teeth! :-0!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip! Glad you had a good time - so sorry Kate didn't sleep at night, she seemed to like the pack n play for naps...
