Swamp Rabbit

The heat index has been over 100 these past few weeks, but that didn't stop us from getting out of the house yesterday, in fact, I was really wanting to get out after a busy week at work and not much quality time with the family.  We love taking day trips to explore new places, and the city of Greenville has been on our list for a long time.  It is about an hour and a half away and made such a good first impression on us that I'm sure we will go back many times.  The Reedy River Falls are right in the middle of downtown, along with a lovely park that is all part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail we have been wanting to ride.

We rode 12 miles, most of it was shady and the great thing about cycling is that you always have a bit of a breeze.  There were a few hills, nothing too bad, and I had my own personal encouragement sitting right behind me the whole way telling me I was doing a great job.  Kate is such a fun little companion to have on the bike, we made up songs and spotted squirrels and had fun riding the trail together for a couple of hours on a Saturday morning.

Luke and Matt had a great time too, the trail was very well populated and I don't know how many times people passing us mentioned something about how cute and cool Luke's bike seat is, it was a very popular conversation piece.  He loved pointing out all the dogs that were walking on the trail.  Our goal was to make it to Furman University, the trail crosses through the campus before continuing on to the town of Traveler's Rest, but we turned back just a bit before reaching it since it was getting close to lunchtime.  Maybe next time!

We did not see any swamp rabbits on our adventure, but did bring home some sticky, sweaty, tired baby bears and parents too.  It was just what we needed, a day together that was a break from the ordinary weekend shuffle.
