Ahh... Fall in South Carolina. Blue skies, bright sunshine, hot temperatures but low humidity and cool pleasant evenings met us everyday last week and the timing could not have been more perfect. My parents were spending a week vacationing at Hilton Head Island and we were fortunate enough to be able to take a mini fall break and enjoy a lazy, long weekend at the beach with them.
Both mine and Matt's parents have commented several times since sweet Katherine Wheeler arrived what joy it is for them to watch us grow into our role as parents. I'd say we are getting just as much pleasure in watching them evolve as grandparents. It's like they're all kids again, and this past weekend seeing my Dad splashing in the pool and ocean and my Mom digging in the sand with Kate brought back many of my own happy childhood memories and was so special to see the relationship continue to form between them and my daughter. It helps that Kate ADORES the beach and it would be impossible not to enjoy yourself while watching her roll around in tidal pools and chase unsuspecting seagulls.

| They arrived at our house last week with presents for Baby Brother! Big Sister was happy to help out. |
| Ready for a weekend of relaxing |
| Some quick island grocery shopping to stock the condo with weekend treats |
| The pool was chilly at first, but Kate didn't mind a bit and gladly would have splashed all day |
| Opa shares his ice cream bar... that's love. |
| Our little beach bum, happy in the sand |
| Oma helps Kate with her creation |
| Time for a dip with Opa! Kate was fearless and giggled with each wave that came her way |
| The tidal pools felt like bath water, and were the perfect spot for floating a boat with Oma |
| I've got flip flops on, let's head back to the "beeeeeeeaccccchhhh!" (Kate's favorite word to shriek excitedly all weekend) |
This is one of those weekends we will look back on fondly for a long time. I've always loved the beach, but seeing the delight on your child's face at the beach makes it a whole new experience and even more fun than ever before.
