Family and the Fourth of July go hand in hand in my book, and this past weekend was another memorable one with our first big road trip with two kids out to Gran's farm in Western Kentucky. We survived the rain, the holiday traffic, the disrupted sleep routines, and the whiny serenades coming from the backseat... now safely home on the other side of the adventure I can look back and say that yes, it was definitely worth it.

Babies are nothing new to Matt's Mom's side of the family- Gran has five children, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Even so, the love and attention lavished on Luke this weekend would make you think they'd never seen a baby before, and since he is currently the newest, youngest (and dare I say cutest) member of the family the admiring fans came as no surprise to me. I'm so glad everyone was able to come spend time with us and meet him, it was great to see most of our extended family.

We didn't have time this trip to see Matt's Dad's side of the family, so Aunt Carol was sweet enough to come to us out at Gran's instead to visit. Before you start to think the whole weekend was just the Luke Wheeler show, don't worry, Miss Kate managed to soak up tons of attention as well.

One of the best things about the weekend was that Kate had a chance to play with her second cousin, Jorja. Growing up my favorite thing about visiting my family was running around playing with my cousins, no matter how long it had been we were always instant friends. Jorja is two years older, but was incredibly sweet sharing and playing with Kate all day long. In their patriotic shirts with matching curly dark hair, these two looked like sisters and were inseparable.

I love that there are so many people who love our children and hope to have many more fun adventures with our extended family as they get older. Happy fourth of July!
What a great post. It was a great weekend and as always so much fun to spend it with family. Hope you all are getting back on schedule.
