Labor Day at Gran's Farm

We were so happy that we were able to visit Matt's grandmother in Western Kentucky this past weekend.  We don't see our extended family as often as we'd like which makes holiday weekends together even more special.  I want Kate (and baby boy) to grow up knowing who they are, where they come from, and how lucky we are when it comes to our families.  The drive was far, but the fun and quality time with family was well worth it.  Here are a few memories from this holiday weekend:

It was rainy but still a great trip.  On Sunday we went back to Tennessee and Gran came along too with Matt's parents to spend the week visiting them.  My favorite memory from the weekend would have to be Sunday night when we brought Kate downstairs before bed to say goodnight to everyone.  Our busy baby had been on the go all weekend long and had not slowed down long enough to bond much with her Great-Gran.  When we asked her to tell Gran goodnight I was expecting her to be shy as usual.  However, she scampered towards her grinning, threw her little arms around her neck, and planted a kiss on her cheek.  It was the sweetest moment between them and one we will talk about for a long time.

It's hard to believe that summer is officially over, but it was the perfect way to end a memorable one that started with telling our families I was pregnant.  We traveled a lot this summer (Memorial Day at the beach, Nick's wedding in WKY, a festive Fourth of July with my family in Lexington, a week long vacation with our best friends on Sullivan's Island, and a trip out to Gran's farm for Labor Day).  Traveling with a toddler wasn't always easy, but I know by next summer we'll look back and marvel at how simple things were when we only had one child, all the more reason I'm glad we made the most out of this one!
